Housing Rights Center

These agencies provide rental assistance outside of Stay Housed LA. Please review the eligibility requirements and contact the service provider for further information. 

Better Angeles/Step Fund

CalWORKS Housing Support Program            

  • Services Offered: Back rent, security deposits, utility payments, moving costs, credit repair, and motel vouchers. 

  • Eligibility:

  1. Families receiving CalWORKs

CHIRLA              

  • Services Offered: Back rent and security deposits

  • Eligibility:

1. Reside in City of LA

2. Have an annual income of 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) or below

3. Not currently homeless

4. Experienced a financial crisis in the past 12 months 

5. Undocumented households or those impacted by the recent immigration raids

City of Long Beach

  • Services Offered:  Back rent and security deposits

  • Eligibility:

1. Reside in Long Beach

2. Have an annual income of 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) or below

3. Not currently homeless

4. Experienced a financial crisis in the past 12 months       

City of Lynwood: Tenant-Based Rental Assistance Program               

  • Services Offered: One 12-month term of rental assistance that  pays 70% of rent, with payments going directly to the landlord. 

  • Eligibility:

1. Reside in City of Lynwood

2. Have an annual income of 60% of Area Median Income (AMI) or below

3. All household members are U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents, or qualified status

4. Not enrolled in any other subsidy program

Compton Rent Relief              

  • Services Offered:  Free mediation services, rental assistance of up to $10,000 per household for unpaid back rent, referrals

  • Eligibility: 

1. Landlord and tenant dispute must be related to unpaid back rent

2. Both the landlord and tenant must agree to participate in mediation

3. The rental property is located in a ZIP code served by the Compton courthouse; 90002, 90003, 90044, 90059, 
    90061, 90220, 90221, 90222, 90223, 90224, 90247, 90248, 90262, 90502, 90710, 90723, 90745, 90746, 90747, 
    90749, 90805, 90810. ​

4. Either the landlord or tenant  household annual income must be at or below 120% of Area Median Income (AMI)

General Relief Housing Subsidy Program      

  • Services Offered: Rental assistance, including security deposits, utility deposits, moving cost, and any other required costs for move-in. 

  • Eligibility:

  1. Individuals receiving General Relief

Homeless Outreach Program Integrated Care System (HOPICS)

  • Services Offered: Security deposit, first month's rent, and back rent

  • Eligibility:

1. Reside in SPA 6 (South LA, Compton, Lynwood, Paramount)

2. Have an annual income of 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) or below

3. Not currently homeless

4. Experienced a financial crisis in the past 12 months 

Interval House               

  • Services Offered: Back rent and security deposits

  • Eligibility:

1. Rent a home in Los Angeles County

2. Have an annual income of 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) or below

5. Domestic violence survivors

JFLA

  • Services Offered: Zero interest loans for back rent, security deposits, moving expenses

  • Eligibility:

1. Over 18 and live in Los Angeles, Ventura, or Santa Barbara County

2. Demonstrate need and ability to repay loan

3. Have at least one qualified guarantor

MediCal - Cal Aims: Community Support      

  • Services Offered: Security deposit, housing navigation services

  • Eligibility:

  1. Individuals receiving  Medi-Cal

PATH    

  • Services Offered: Back rent and security deposits

  • Eligibility:

1. Reside in SPA 4 (Metro LA area) & SPA 5 (West LA area)

2. Have an annual income of 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) or below

3. Not currently homeless

4. Experienced a financial crisis in the past 12 months 

SALVA  

  • Services Offered: Back rent and security deposits

  • Eligibility:

1. Reside in SPA 1 (Antelope Valley)

2. Have an annual income of 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) or below

3. Not currently homeless

4. Experienced a financial crisis in the past 12 months 

City of Santa Monica: Santa Monica Renter Aid   

  • Services Offered: Short-term financial assistance and housing case management services

  • Eligibility:

1. Be a Santa Monica resident 

2. Be experiencing a housing crisis or be at risk of losing housing 

3. Meet income eligibility requirements (up to 120% Area Median Income) 

4. Prioritization for low-income households, older adults, people with disabilities and families with minor children at greatest risk of homelessness 

SCAN: Independence at Home             

  • Services Offered: Case management, care planning, service coordination, advocacy, and rental assistance

  • Eligibility:

1. Over 55 years old 

2. Reside in LA County

South Bay Renter Protection & Homelessness Prevention (SBRPHP)            

  • Services Offered: Back rent and security deposits

  • Eligibility:

1. Reside in SPA 8 (South Bay area)

2. Have an annual income of 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) or below

3. Not currently homeless

4. Experienced a financial crisis in the past 12 months

  • Services Offered: Back rent and security deposits

1. Reside in SPA 7 (East LA), SPA 8 (South Bay area) or ZIP Codes 91745, 90059, 90001

2. Have an annual income of 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) or below
